Biology
2009 ~ 2010
Biology is the study of life. As we study biology, we will frequently
run across a lot of “bigwords” that you will need to learn. One thing that
can help you understand those words, which will also aid you in everything
from reading the newspaper to communicating with your doctor, is to know
the Greek or Latin (or other) derivations of the wordstems which make up
those words. For example, the word “biology” is made from the word stems
bios, which means “life,” and -logy which means “to study” or “the study
of.”
The branch of knowledge which treats living matter as distinct from matter
which is not living; the study of cells and tissue. It has to do with the
origin, structure, development, function, and distribution of animals and
plants.
To be successful, work the homework, study your vocabulary, come to class
on time and preread the material. All work should reference the Quality Work Standards
